Senior Software Engineer Position

As a Senior Software Engineer you will be a member of a team responsible for designing, analyzing requirements, developing, implementing, testing, debugging, and maintaining software solutions for Adtran products, especially plug-ins for the Mosaic Cloud Platform. The position requires the ability to perform Engineering tasks for major projects or for projects of moderate complexity with limited direction.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform or assist in feasibility studies of needed software development.
• Document the design including features definition and provisioning models.
• Model and define APIs using Restconf, Netconf, MIBs, CLI, YANG or similar standards.
• Conduct and participate in design reviews and code reviews.
• Plan and perform unit and system level testing of existing features, new features, and enhancements.
• Fix software bugs found during all testing phases.
• Work with the team to deploy and test incremental software releases.
• Mentor team members in qualifications listed in this job description.
• Participate in interviewing and evaluating coops and candidate employees.
• Lead debugging and analysis sessions with customers.
• Organize and coordinate development activities within schedule and product constraints.

Example target projects

• Configuration and management of networking and access equipment using management protocols and data encoding schemes.
• Design or assist in the design of new plug-in features and maintenance and enhancement of existing plug-ins.
• Design or assist in the design and development of the Mosaic Cloud Platform management solution, including new microservices and maintaining existing microservices.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent education required.
• More than 5 years of professional experience required.
• Experience with Ethernet and networking protocols in a Linux environment.
• Experience in computer science, competencies in data structures, algorithms, software engineering, and procedural programming techniques.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Experience with C/C++.
• Experience with a JVM language (Java) including JVM tuning and memory management.
• Proficiency with virtual machine configuration, management, deployment, maintenance, and usage.
• Proficiency developing containerized applications (Docker or equivalent).
• Experience developing and deploying large scale applications in cloud and virtual environments.
• Experience with version control system (e.g. Git).
• Familiarity with lab test equipment needed to unit or system level test the software component designed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework, continuous integration.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, IP protocols, Datacom technologies, embedded Linux, L2 and L3 protocols, Ethernet switching, networking protocols, FTTx, CLI, GPON, and 10G EPON.
• Knowledge of virtual machines, containers, C++, Python, Go, Java, XML, Netconf, Restconf, multi-process software development, micro-service development, inter-process communications, and thread safety and cloud deployment.
