Canonical is seeking a Python Software Engineer to join the Certification team, responsible for creating tools to ensure the proper functioning of desktops, laptops, servers, and IoT devices.
The ideal candidate is a Python developer with knowledge of hardware and experience at the interface of hardware and software.
Certification Team Responsibilities
- Developing tools for hardware certification with Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Desktop, and Server
- Designing hardware for independent device probing and frameworks for comprehensive Ubuntu software tests
Role Description
The role entails developing and maintaining open source certification tools, creating hardware solutions for test automation, and automating existing processes to expand certification test suites.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining and developing new features for Python-based test automation tools like Checkbox
- Enabling remote, automated testing and building software for in-house designed testing hardware
- Writing functional and performance tests to support hardware enablement and prevent regressions
- Participating in international travel-related meetings 2-3 times per year
Required Skills And Experience
- Proficiency in Python programming language
- Quality-oriented, pragmatic approach to software design and implementation
- Interest in test automation methodologies
- Previous experience with Ubuntu or other Linux distributions
- Ability to be productive in a globally distributed team
Desired Skills And Experience
- Passion for tinkering and making
- Experience in an agile environment
- Hardware testing experience, especially in the IoT space
- Familiarity with the C programming language
