We are looking for a forward-thinking Software Development Engineer to come and join our talented and innovative team who solve data engineering problems to allow our customers to pull data in the shape and frequency required.
Our EMIS team have worked hard to build a data platform to help the NHS manage one of the richest healthcare datasets in the world, which currently houses 1 Petabyte of data and able to query 1.5 billion rows of data every second.

What you’ll do
- You will be involved in all aspects of the development lifecycle including architecture, code reviews, testing, as well as cutting code.
- Support the enhancement of the product to add new features and improve functionality.
- Work closely with your team, providing support and guidance to your peers as well as actively contributing to tech discussions.
- Work to ensure we have solutions to complex problems.
Who you’ll be
You will be able to demonstrate your experience working within a Software Engineering/Development position. We want you to be able to take ownership and accountability for what you are doing and be comfortable working with autonomy and using your initiative. Here, we are advocates for promoting the ability to think freely and creatively. We want you to have a curious nature, looking at improvements and efficiencies and have evidence of where you have done this before.
- Hands-on experience of Python and SQL
- Exposure to developing in a cloud platform such as AWS, GCP or Azure
- Knowledge of big data technologies e.g., Trino, Hadoop, or Pyspark
- Ability to build trusted and credible relationships with your peers, stakeholders, and customers.
- Analytical thinker and natural problem solver
