The Role

We are recruiting a software engineer/developer to join the team. As a software engineer, you will be involved in the development of software applications and control systems which enable the seamless automation of our custom test systems in our optical laboratory. This role will play a key role in the seamless integration of our quantum hardware to enable the success of our products.

The role will be diverse and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across the full stack from developing rapid test and characterisation applications, to the control systems which enable our quantum computing platform.

You will work in a cross-disciplinary team which includes quantum photonic engineers, mechanical engineers, optical physicists alongside business developers and product designers. The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of projects delivering technical leadership in the delivery of robust software across the company’s core product development activities.

Responsibilities

  • The scoping and development of custom software applications (Python, QT, PostgreSQL) within an agile delivery team
  • Development of custom software for the testing of quantum devices
  • Close collaboration with the hardware engineering team
  • Delivery of internal software development lifecycles in close collaboration with our hardware engineering team.
  • Development of control software for our custom production hardware.
  • Collaborating with external partners

We are developing high-performance systems which utilize our proprietary sources of quantum light and hybrid photonic platforms to deliver new capabilities in quantum computing and networking. Aegiq are backed by leading venture capital funds and are expanding the team to bring pioneering products to market with early customers including the National Quantum Computing Centre and the UK Ministry of Defense amongst others.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant start-up at an early stage of the company’s development and can professionally develop in tandem with the growth of the business.

Our offices and labs are located at the Sheffield Technology Park, which is within minutes of walking from the Sheffield train station, central public transport interchange, and has secure bike storage and car parking.

Requirements

  • A good degree in a numerate subject such as computer science or controls engineering
  • Proficient in the use of Python and software development tools
  • Experience in the integration of hardware and/or scientific instrumentation
  • Highly motivated self-starter with exceptional organizational skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment
  • Eligible to work in the UK

The ideal candidate would also have experience in one of the following areas:

  • Experience in real-time hardware control
  • Full stack experience in a commercial setting
