Job Description
As a member of NBCUniversal Engineering's Platform Development & Engineering Experience organization, you will be part of a new effort to define how the organization builds custom applications on the cloud. This is a unique role in that it can touch every NBCUniversal business, both creative and operational, creating applications that redefine how we do business.
The Senior Software Engineer will:
- Write clean, concise, readable, state-of-the-art code that follows common design patterns while adhering to the best engineering practices
- Strive to constantly improve the quality of engineering through code reviews, tech talks, pair programming & other collaborative practices
- Understand business needs & design quality software solutions that work well with the current architecture
- Work with others on pushing technical boundaries & contribute to new processes & technologies
- Ensure quality & confidence in software by writing effective automated unit tests
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Extensive experience with cloud computing platforms, specifically AWS and/or Azure
- Familiarity with Serverless services like AWS Lambda or Azure Functions
- Strong knowledge of JavaScript & relevant JavaScript design patterns
- Proficient in either Angular and/or React, with a strong understanding TypeScript
- Proficiency in Python, C#, or similar high-level server-side languages.
- Experience in building scalable, high-performance distributed systems.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerization technologies.
- Ability to decide when to use relational vs. NoSQL databases and must have experience with at least one of the relational databases (Microsoft SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
- Leads services throughout their lifecycle, encompassing design, development, testing, building, deployment, and proactive management of production challenges
- Experience in CI/CD and Cloud technologies
- Must be an effective communicator, team player, and mentor junior developers
Desired Characteristics:
- Understanding of event-driven architecture and asynchronous programming patterns.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
