As Senior Backend Engineer (Python)
You get to directly contribute to improving our assessment engine in a team led by our Head of Assessment Engine, Fabian. Join us on either a part-time or full-time basis (30-38.5 hours) at our HQ in Vienna or remotely within the EU. Due to legal requirements, you should have your residence in either Austria, Germany, Italy, or Sweden, or be registered as a freelancer in other European countries to issue invoices.

- Salary - €50-70k including potential shares (VSOP - usually around 5-15%) 💰 This is just our targeted budget, we will consider adjusting for less or more experience and the overall fit.
In this role, you will:
- Build and improve the data pipeline and business logic of our assessment engine which is based on Python (Apache Airflow) and PostgreSQL.
- Develop the product according to the company’s vision and goals, in close collaboration with business and product owners.
- Help to shape the architecture of a product that is able to fulfill the needs of our customers and own it from the idea over development to operations.
- Run tests, deploy releases, and own the running application and understand how it behaves “in the wild”.
- Translate requirements from LCA experts and retail industry stakeholders into software specifications
- Collaborate with the Data and Research team to understand and implement the methodological foundation of the assessment engine.
You're a fit because:
- You have roughly 3-5 years of relevant experience in backend development with Python.
- You have experience with Airflow, SQL and SQLAlchemy or related technologies.
- You already worked in customer-facing projects, ideally in a B2B SaaS startup.
- You are willing to be operational and versatile, adapting your contribution in various areas as the product evolves.
- You like to find solutions rather than problems and have demonstrated your advanced analytical thinking capacities by making product decisions based on data and A/B testing.
- You are fluent in spoken and written English, German is a plus but not a must.
Nice-to-Have(s):
- Advanced knowledge of SQL.
- Experience with Ruby on Rail (RoR) so we can align even better with our Platform team.
- Experience with Pandas and Numpy.
- Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Background in math, statistics, numerical computation, etc.
