Job Opportunity: Python Software Engineer at Canonical
Canonical is seeking a Python Software Engineer to join the Certification team. The team is responsible for developing tools that certify hardware for compatibility with Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Desktop, and Server. This role offers the opportunity to work at the interface of hardware and software, making a meaningful impact on the adoption of Linux across various device categories and industries. The team is based in EMEA time zones and collaborates with colleagues from the Americas and APAC.
Role Description
The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated software engineer with experience in Python development. The role involves working on test automation tools or Linux-based embedded hardware. Responsibilities include maintaining and developing new features for Python-based test automation tools, enabling remote automated testing, building software for in-house designed testing hardware, and writing functional and performance tests to support hardware enablement.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop new features in Python-based test automation tools like Checkbox
- Invent new ways to enable remote, automated testing
- Help build software for in-house designed testing hardware
- Write functional and performance tests to support hardware enablement
- Participate in international meetings involving travel 2-3 times per year
Required Skills And Experience
- Knowledge of Python programming language
- Quality-oriented, pragmatic approach to software design and implementation
- Interest in test automation methodologies
- Previous experience working with Ubuntu or other Linux distributions
- Ability to be productive in a globally distributed team
Desired Skills And Experience
- Passion for tinkering
- Experience working in an agile environment
- Hardware testing experience, e.g., in the IoT space
- Familiarity with the C programming language
