About HOLOEYE Photonics

HOLOEYE Photonics is one of the leading providers of spatial light modulators based on liquid crystal microdisplays and diffractive optical elements for scientific and industrial applications. Our teams for development, engineering, and technical sales are located in Berlin-Adlershof. With an international team of 40 employees, we support research facilities and industrial customers worldwide with static diffractive microoptics and adaptive spatial light modulators. We offer both standard components and customized solutions tailored to customer needs.

Use Case

The solutions provided by HOLOEYE are utilized globally, for instance in laser beam splitting and shaping, or for generating structured light for applications such as 3D sensing.

Your Team

The "Diffractive Optics" team, led by Dr. Andreas Hermerschmidt, consists of around 5 members covering all aspects of product specification. This involves customer interaction, specification, design + simulation, data preparation for manufacturing, supplier interaction, and internal optical laboratory tests.

Your Hiring Manager

Andreas Hermerschmidt, a physicist with extensive expertise in laser physics and diffractive optics, values teamwork and emphasizes open and direct communication. He places great importance on achieving a good balance between the needs of customers, the HOLOEYE team, and external partners.

Your Tasks

  • You will work on the design and simulation of optical micro- and nanostructures for optical elements with dedicated functions (e.g., diffractive optical elements & metal lenses).
  • You will assist in generating data for the fabrication of micro- and nano-optical structures.
  • You will be responsible for analyzing test results from optical or surface characterizations to derive optimal process parameters for manufacturing processes in initial and subsequent iterations.
  • Your goal in the first 6 months is to develop 2-4 of your own designs and assess their performance for optimization opportunities after fabrication.
  • This will help you familiarize yourself with the team and its workflows.

Optional or Future Tasks

  • You will coordinate with customers, attend trade shows and scientific conferences, and represent HOLOEYE at these events.
  • You will contribute to qualifying manufacturing processes for micro- and nano-optical structures, such as laser or electron beam lithography, reactive plasma etching, nanoimprint, and molding.
  • You will conduct optical measurements to characterize optical micro- and nanostructures.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: University (or technical university) degree in one of the following fields: Physics, Microsystems Engineering, Computer Science / Programming, Optical Engineering
  • Technical Knowledge: Ideally in at least 2-3 of the following fields: Fourier Optics, rigorous diffraction simulation (e.g., RCWA, FDTD), wave optics propagation, Metasurfaces, Lithography, Lasers, Optical Systems
  • Programming Skills: Python, ideally also in C++, MATLAB
  • Analytical Abilities: High analytical skills to link simulation and experimental results and draw necessary conclusions for further optimizations
  • Work Approach: Ability to work systematically, self-organized, but also team-oriented and capable of dealing with changing requirements
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in English, German language skills desirable
  • Mindset: Intrinsic motivation and solution-oriented
