The Motley Fool - Freelance Backend Developer Position
The Motley Fool is looking for a highly skilled Freelance Backend Developer with strong python skills to work on building out internal tools. This is a senior-level role that requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. The role is 100% remote and requires roughly 40 hours of work per week for at least 12 months. Candidates must be located in the United States for consideration.

The IT Team at The Motley Fool is committed to integrating cutting-edge AI and ML technologies into operations. They develop internal tools that enhance productivity, foster innovation, and enable automation to further the mission of making the world smarter, happier, and richer.
What would you do in this role?
- Architect and implement scalable backend systems for internal tools
- Connect internal tools with third-party APIs using Python
- Utilize Infrastructure as Code practices to automate cloud-based resources
- Enhance and maintain the internal Slack application suite
- Develop and integrate AI/ML APIs into applications
- Teach and mentor team members
Required Skills and Experience:
- Mid-level to senior developer experience with Python
- Working with APIs and data structures for system integrations
- Experience with AWS services and serverless architecture
- Proficiency with Terraform and Docker
- Strong online collaboration and communication skills
Even better if you have:
- Experience with Amazon Connect and front-end technologies like React/Next
- Experience with Fast API
- A passion for investing and familiarity with The Motley Fool's tools and services
Compensation:
Hourly Pay Range: $75—$90 USD
