Data Engineer (Python/SQL) - Remote

Overview

Financial fraud is a significant issue in the UK, costing the economy over £200Bn annually and representing more than 40% of all crime in England and Wales.

Opportunity

Join a startup dedicated to combating financial crime and reducing online payment scams. The team is in its early stages and is seeking a Founding Data Engineer to collaborate closely with successful FinTech entrepreneurs.

Responsibilities

• Take on a high level of ownership by designing, constructing, and maintaining scalable and dependable data storage, processing pipelines, and analytics infrastructure.
• Utilize your expertise in data analysis and model development to run experiments and create transparent, production-grade data products that benefit the business and its customers.

Requirements

• Proficiency in data processing and analytics tools such as SQL, Python/Scala, Spark, and Airflow.
• Strong grasp of data architectures, data modeling, and the creation of scalable and fault-tolerant data pipelines and data lakes/warehouses.
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS and GCP, containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code with tools like Terraform.
• Proven track record in handling sensitive data, along with comprehension of data governance, privacy issues, and regulations such as GDPR.

Work Setup and Compensation

• Remote Working: 3 days in the office (WC2, London) and 2 days at home.
• Package: £100k - £120k + equity stake + standard benefits.
• Interview Process: Consists of 3 stages.
