Job Description

Reporting to the Strategy and Analytics team within Sun Life Group Investments (SLGI), the Data Analyst is responsible for reviewing large quantities of data and transforming the data into models to help generate value for a variety of functions. In this role, the Data Analyst will have the opportunity to formulate, plan, and execute advanced statistical modeling for the purpose of both analysis and testing.

The Data Analyst will also work to develop enhanced and personalized reporting as well as apply advanced statistical knowledge for various business partners within SLGI and will perform ongoing and periodic testing and analysis of the block of business. The ideal candidate will not only have a strong grasp of statistical theory but will also possess a strong business acumen to apply this theoretical knowledge in the context of a financial business.

What will you do?

  • Analyze large quantities of data and help create value throughout the organization (Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations, Actuarial, Product, etc.) using descriptive, diagnostic, and predictive methods
  • Design and implement advanced metrics evaluating a variety of different aspects of the business
  • Utilize AWS to develop and implement advanced statistical models for the purposes of descriptive, diagnostic, and predictive application
  • Create data tools and optimize data pipelines using AWS ETL technologies
  • Improve efficiency of existing business processes through application of procedural automation methods using VBA

What do you need to succeed?

  • University degree in Mathematics / Statistics, Economics / Econometrics, Business, Computer Science, or another analytics-related discipline
  • Proven track record of working with data and deriving analytical insights within practical or academic settings
  • Experience with machine learning including supervised and unsupervised models
  • Experience with development and application of advanced metrics for the purposes of evaluating business performance
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, and Microsoft, with a proven track record of creating informative and interactive dashboards
  • Experience of working with data analysis / big data technologies (SAS, Python, R, SQL, Hadoop, Zeppelin, AWS, Hive)
  • Comfortable managing competing priorities and communicating the consequences of a shift in focus
  • Ability to distill complex technical information into the key points that matter to the audience
  • A strong analytical mindset that is able to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment

What will be nice to have?

  • Related work experience in an analytical role in Financial/Banking industry is a strong asset
  • Experience with CRM tools or Salesforce specifically
  • Strong mutual fund and market-based insurance product knowledge
